Jonkers Super Single Trail Run

Our trail grading: ORANGE 9B
Distance: 7km
Extremeness: Mostly awesome single track
Location: Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Joggers: Pieter & Nadia van Heerden and me

During this run I had the privilege to extreme jog with Super Piet and Nadia (his wife, also pretty super). The idea was to jog as many single tracks as possible before the sun set in Jonkershoek. The result was what I call the "Super Single Track" loop: 88% of awesome single track, extremely jog-able and enjoyable! We started with "the peaceful" single which became not so peaceful after about 1km. After about 2km we jogged about 800m of contour jeep track to join up with the upper section of the Canary MTB trail. I pushed during the first section of Canary and Super Piet hunted me down and looked in much better shape than me when we finished. I think we've got a challenger for Deryck the downhill banded! Nadia's jogging style, on the other hand, included some slick Wim-type shortcuts and cutbacks all performed with precision and an "innocent-oops-how-did-I-get-here" expression on her face. Different to Wim, she fights to keep the lead after out-manoeuvring you on the donwhill. All in all we had a lot of fun and was treated with a beautiful sunset as we drove out of Jonkershoek. Piet and Nadia, what more reason do you need to move to Cape Town?

  1. Yes this was a good run! The single track was awesome all the way. Not moving down to CPT quite yet, but looking forward to our next run together.
