Sosyskloof+ Trail Run
Our trail grading: Brown 8B
Distance: 13km
Extremeness: Stones, sticks and cliffs with MTB downhill
Location: Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Joggers: Deryck Nel & me
For this run we went out early to tackle the uphill without the extreme heat and wind predicted. We started at the Jonkershoek gate and jogged 3km of easy uphill to reach the start of the Sosyskloof Cape Nature hiking trail. From here on it is all technical single track, a rough climb up Swartboskloof for about 2km. Here you leave the Swartboskloof trail and start jogging towards Sosyskloof. This is one of my favourite single tracks: very narrow, cliffs on the side, in some places the foliage is so thick the you can't see the trail and, of course, the views are breathtaking! At the famous block house we left the Sosyskloof hiking trail and turned unto an established MTB trail leading towards Baviaanskloof. Again we followed the contour to the top of a pine plantation and an awesome MTB downhill trail of about 2km took us back to the Jonkershoek gate.
