Noordhoek Wreck Beach Run
Our trail grading: YELLOW 10A (sand)
Distance: 5km
Extremeness: Easy run with a hectic cross-wind and soft sand
Location: Noordhoek Beach, Noordhoek, South Africa
Joggers: Peter Miller & me
We got up early for Pete's birthday-run and was not disappointed. We did not have a lot of time, so ran from our house in Kommetjie towards the Noordhoek wreck. The morning was amazing and perfect for bare-foot jogging. The extremeness was provided by a strong cross-wind and soft sand. We took a break halfway so that Pete's kids could sing him happy birthday!
Interesting: The wreck is the steamship SS Kakapo which ran aground in 1900. Some of the metal plates were later used as a barricade to protect the railway line, others were removed during World War II to be recycled into armaments. This information was obtain from The Portfolio Travel Blog.
