Our trail grading: Green 5B
Extremeness: 900m climb in 2.5km & technical single track
Location: Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Joggers: Andries Heyns, Christiaan van Niekerk, Deryck Nel & me
The jog started at 6:00 to avoid the extreme Stellenbosch heat. The idea was to run most of the Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge (JMC) 20km route that we did in horrible weather conditions in August last year. The route started with a nice 4.5km warm-up on the left part of the Jonkershoek circle route and then headed up the Panorama Cape Nature hiking route for a grueling 900m, 2.5km climb! We almost missed the turn-off which would have made the this a 25km plus run... thank you Christian for finding the hidden exit! From here on we followed a beautiful technical single track along the contours below Pieke mountains. After 5km we hit a jeep track that took us all the way down to the Jonkershoek gate.
